Moving to Korea

Are you moving to Korea?

Are you thinking of moving to Korea? There are several positive and negative things that can happen during this particular process of relocating to another different country. Moving is hard enough, but consider moving countries where things can definitely get out of whack quite quick. That can be something that almost makes you overly paranoid to be able to comfortably take care of everything at once. That can be something also can make you scare to be able to do that if you desire to make the transition well.

Things to Consider

Here are some tips before you go finding an apartment in South Korea:

  • Are you willing to take the time to be able to comfortably be able to take care of everything associated with the move?
  • Are you willing to begin the process of learning Korean?
  • Do you have a list of everything that you need to do to make this transition comfortable and easy for yourself?
  • Do you have kids or family to consider in the move?
  • Are you willing to invest long term in the move?

These are just some of the ideas that you need to consider before moving abroad, especially to the country of South Korea. That can be something that you have to consider before proceeding to relocate to the country. That can also help you to be able to start the process of getting more of what you want out of the move as well.

Finding an Apartment

My advice: travel to South Korea first and start asking the locals where the best apartments are. Ask them also how much they should be able to pay everything month on a decent sized apartment. That way, you can avoid getting overcharged on your apartment. If in doubt, you could always find a realtor to be able to help you find a great apartment that you can move into overall.

However, if you are not able to travel to the country, proceed to use sites like Craigslist to be able to find an apartment. Be sure to only look at the listings that have pictures or a link to a website where you can find out more information. This is something that you might want to be able to take advantage of while you are looking for an apartment. Perhaps take advantage of emailing the person with the listing so you can see more of the apartment that they have listed.

Be sure to stick to your preferred monthly price. Don't go over that price that you have set in terms of monthly rent. If a place looks good and is overly expensive, then pass. It's better to not get in debt as a result of this particular process of moving abroad.

Tips for Finding a Good Apartment

If moving into a new apartment (new to you anyway), there are quite a few things that you can look at as well:

  • Be sure to look it over before agreeing to anything. There may be hidden things that the apartment has. That can be a bite later on when you get that unexpected surprise. That will be something that you might want to avoid long term if you want to be able to make the most of being in a different country.
  • Be sure to look at the layout and the number of rooms it has. The layout can make it a pain to move things if you are not overly careful with which apartment you have chosen for yourself. If you are able to, ask to see some of the other available layouts. That can greatly help you to have the right number of rooms and being able to maximize each room as well.
  • If in doubt, move onto the next apartment. Make sure that the place you have chosen is going to be a good fit for you and for your family if you are planning to make a large move to a different country. That can be something that helps the rest of your family as well to be able to adjust accordingly to the move process. Don't make it harder on them than necessary. Remember they are a part of the move process too.
  • Finally, make the apartment yours. After all, it is not a home if you do not add your personal touches to your apartment in South Korea. There are plenty of ways to be able to do that and just let your creativity fly when you get moved in and settled properly.
